Thanksgiving greetings to all!

Nostalgic greetings!

One thing I love about collecting antique greeting cards is witnessing firsthand how people celebrated holidays like birthdays, Valentine's Day, and other holidays. Collecting the cards also often makes me nostalgic, bringing back fond memories from holidays that I celebrated as a child.

One holiday that definitely says family is Thanksgiving. I have wonderful memories of Thanksgiving, where lots of people crammed into my grandma's small house, enjoying the amazing feast that she prepared. No other meals have ever rivaled those Thansgiving days at grandma's "back in the day".
I am grateful for all of the memories and grateful for all the many blessings that I have today.

Until recently my collection did not include any Thanksgiving greeting cards. Then, at a recent fall antique show I spotted these two cards. One is an actual Thanksgiving card from Hallmark, and the other is actually a mechanical Valentine ( the spinning wheel spins!) but the subject matter reminds me on Thanksgiving, so I am including it.

I want to send wishes for a blessed Thanksgiving to everyone that reads this blog. Stay nostalgic and stay grateful.

Happy Veteran's Day!

Nostalgic greetings!

It has been a long time since I've posted to this blog, but I wanted to take a few minutes to honor our Veterans today by posting a few military cards from my collection. While I don't specifically have Veteran's  Day cards, I do have a few birthday cards and Valentines that were designed for servicemen (and women) that I have purchased in the past few years, and I want to share them today to honor those who have served.

This first birthday card captures lots of experiences a soldier may have encountered.

This second card is a popup birthday card.

This adorable Valentine is hand-dated 1944

Here's another Valentine featuring a serviceman

And here's one more military inspired Valentine card...

This birthday card is special, because the message inside is typed and is dated June 16, 1943.

This birthday card is one that keeps unfolding and features some cute illustrations.

I hope you've enjoyed the military cards from my collection.
Stay nostalgic, and if you get the chance, tell a Veteran thanks for serving. Also, if you can, send a card to someone who is currently serving...it could brighten their day.

Nostalgic greeetings!

I wanted to share my 8 year old birthday cards, since this is the 8th month. I didn't have a lot of 8 year old cards but I had good card karma at antiqing last weekend and found 4 different 8 year old cards...it must have been meant to be!

                                                   This one is hand-dated 1941

This one is hand-dated 1951, and is from Hallmark
This was one of my first cards after I started my collection, and it was found by my friend Lisa on one of her antiquing expeditions

I hope you're staying cool...It has been a hot week! Stay nostalgic!

Sunday School Greetings

Nostalgic greetings to you!

Today, I wanted to share another part of my collection. In addition to collecting antique greeting cards and valentines, I also collect Sunday School postcards. Apparently, churches used to send these postcards to children when they missed a week of sunday school. I would like to find more history about them, and if I do I will blog about that at a later date. I only have a few so far, but I am always looking for more when we do our antiquing. Here are the ones I have so far.

I don't really know how old that these are, but I do know that I am drawn to them when I see them, so because of that, a new part of my collection began.

Stay nostalgic!

Last-minute July greetings!

Nostalgic greetings!

I almost let July get away without posting, but I am making up for lost time now! The summer is such a busy time that it's hard to carve out time to post. The good news is, I've done a LOT of antiquing this summer and have a lot more cards in my collection for future posts!

As I usually do, I am posting 7 year old birthday cards since it's the 7th month! I don't have many 7 year old cards....I hope I find some at future antiquing adventures!

These 2 cards are from Forget Me Not.

None of these cards had dates listed, but I do think the one with the carousel is very old.

I will be posting again soon! Until then, keep nostalgic!

Nostalgic greetings, friends!

Tonight, I want to send a special greeting to all the Fathers out there. As of this morning, I had no Father's Day card to post but then I went antiquing and all of that changed. I now am the proud owner of one Father's Day card! This one "bowled me over", and I had to buy it!

I also want to share some 6 year old birthday cards, since it is the 6th month.

This glittery monkey card is  not dated

This card is from Forget Me Not

This flocked blue card looks plain on the outside,
but has lots of color inside

I liked the message on the back too!

This flocked bear card is from Hallmark and dated 1948

The brightly detailed Hickory Dickory Dock card is mechanical and is from Barker and dated 1949

This cute penguin card has a handwritten date of Jan 19, 1949

This school children card is from 1949, from Greetings, Inc.

This card was handmarked 1949

I hope you're enjoying looking at my blog. I found great bunch of cards today (36 cards! and Igot them for a steal) when I was antiquing early this morning, so be looking for more in future blogs!

Stay nostalgic and be sure to tell your father that you love him (today and everyday). I'd do anything to still have mine around.
