Nostalgic Greetings to you!

Today, I am finishing up with the doll series and doing my last blog entry for the month of January. Next week, I'll begin sharing some of my favorite vintage valentines. If you don't want to miss anything, make sure you click on the Follow by Email box and add your email so you'll be notified each time I post something new.

By the way, do you like the new look of my blog? I found this template and thought it was perfect for me!

If you know of other vintage greeting card blogs, or other cool vintage blogs, let me know so I can add them to my blogroll.

This card is from the International Dolls collection and it came out in 1949. This is the only one I have from this set.

I didn't see this one listed anywhere, but it is like the Storyland ones, so I am including Old King Cole here as well.

See you in February! Stay warm!

Nostalgic (and SNOWY!) greetings to you today!

Just when we thought we could get no more snow, Mother Nature just made another hefty deposit. :)

Oh well, what's better on a snowy day than getting nostalgic and looking at old greeting cards?!

So, let me continue with the dolls theme today.

The third in the series of Hallmark doll cards featured the MGM movie Little Women. This was the last doll set that Hallmark produced and according to Linda McPherson's book Collecting Vintage Children's Greeting Cards, it was also their most successful set. This set came out in 1949. So far, I've only been able to locate 1 in this set but I'll be actively looking for Meg, Amy & Beth this spring and summer.

My Jo card is in good condition, but does not have her feather.

In 1949, American Greetings came out with their Storyland Doll Cards. I think there were 12 in this set. Apparently (according to McPherson's book) , the cards that were part of boxed sets had feathers on their heads...individually sold cards were minus the feather. I have 2 from this collection so far, Goldilocks and Little Miss Muffet. Mine do not have feathers.

See you again soon! Stay warm everyone!

Hallmark Dolls of the Nations

Nostalgic greetings to you all!

Today, I am continuing with the doll card theme. The 2nd Hallmark doll series was the Dolls of the Nations with 8 being introduced in 1948 and 8 more in 1949.

In my collection, I have two from 1948 and three from 1949 and I hope to acquire more in my "antiquing adventures" in the spring and summer.

From the 1948 collection, I have doll cards from France and Brazil.

I have Australia, Switzerland, and India from the 1949 dolls.

I think the detailing on the cards is just amazing. I am also impressed that the feathers are intact on the ones that I have. I also have a few duplicates without feathers, but I will probably sell those at some point.

The next time I post, I will share the remainder of my doll cards.

If you like this blog, you will also love one called Vintage Recycling. I have followed it for quite a while and her blog actually inspired me to create my own. The blog creator Jen shares great history of greeting cards in her blog. Check it out:

Stay warm, happy, & nostalgic,

Dolls from the Land of Make Believe

Nostalgic Greetings!

In the next few posts, I have decided to share some of my doll cards. There are several amazing sets of doll cards that came out in the late 1940s. Thanks to Linda McPherson's book Collecting Vintage Children's Greeting Cards (2006), I can share a few facts with you.

The first set was Hallmark's Dolls From the Land Of Make Believe. There are 16 dolls in the set that came out in 1947. I have 6/16. I'll share those with you in the next few days. It is great to find cards with both the feather and the sequin jewel still attached, and I have been been pretty lucky to find many with both still intact. Each doll card is a cut out of the doll, with a very detailed front and back and a description of the doll inside.

Little Bo Peep

Cinderella

Mary Had a Little Lamb.

I'll share the other 3 tomorrow and more doll card sets in the next few posts in January!

Stay warm!
Mary

Note: I spent HOURS over the weekend scanning all of my vintage Valentines to be ready for Februar
y...can't wait to share them!

Happy birthday to 1 year olds!

Nostalgic greetings!

Well, I have a few more 1 year birthday cards to share today. I think this will finish off this category.

This one seems very old, but does not have a date displayed.

This one isn't dated either. It has a metallic silver 1.

Again, an unknown date, but I think it has a sweet picture.

This one is from Rust Craft and is dated 1942. It has a little wheel to spin, to choose what year you want displayed.(see below).

Well, that is all for now. What category will I share next?! I am looking forward to  February because I have some adorable Vintage Valentines to share.

Until next time,
Mary

More Happy Birthday

Nostalgic greetings to ya!

Today, I am sharing a few more of my Happy Birthday cards that are geared at year one. I don't have as many of these as I do some of the other years, but I do really love the ones I have.

This first card is not as old as some of my cards but is particularly special to me because it was given to me at age 1 (circa 1964). Yes, yes, I know that IS an antique. :) Note: The cat fur has a fuzzy texture (flocked).

This next card is not dated, but I picked it up at one of my antiquing trips. The "1 Year old" is printed in a metallic silver.

This 3rd card is from Norcross, but is not dated.

That's all for today...just posting on my lunch hour.

Until next time,
Mary

Happy Birthday January folks!

Nostalgic greetings!

Today, I'm continuing with the trend of showing  birthday cards celebrating 1 year.

Are you having a birthday in January? if so, have a great one! Since I've personally already been forgetful with a few January birthdays, I think I'll feature 2 elephant cards today. :)

This one is from Gibson Greeting Cards.

This one had a date of 1944 (in ink) on the back.

Take care!

Birthday Greetings for One Year Olds

Nostalgic Greetings!

I am switching gears from showcasing my Get Well cards and am going to display some birthday cards for 1 year olds. Since it is the 1st month of the year, I'll show 1 year cards. That way, I can show birthday cards for the different ages on the corresponding months.

I'll start off with a few of my favorite 1 year old cards today.

This is a card from Hallmark. The duck is covered in gold glitter.

This little lamb card is dated 1944.

This is a cute carousel card from 1944

I'll post a few more 1 year old cards before January ends.

Stay nostalgic,
Mary
